ASAARO (Yam Porridge)

Learn how to make yam porridge (asaaro) with this easy recipe we learned on the Ongacious TV Show

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 Tuber of Yam
  • 1 Big Onion
  • 3 Tbs Crayfish Powder
  • 3 Cps Palm Oil
  • 2 ONGA Chicken Cubes
  • Salt to Taste
  • Peppers
  • Sliced vegetables (optional)
  • METHOD

    1. Place a large pot on medium heat
    2. Peel off yam skin and proceed to cut yam into smaller pieces.
    3. Wash yams properly and place in the pot of boiling water (water should be almost the same level with yam)
    4. Add chopped onions and allow to boil for 20 minutes
    5. Add salt to taste
    6. Add pepper, crayfish powder, ONGA Chicken Cubes and palm oil
    7. Leave to steam and mix up well for 5 minutes.
    8. Mash the cooked yam with a spatula. Do not mash it completely into a smooth paste. There should be small chunks of yam left.
    9. Add the sliced vegetables (if you are using) and stir well until combined. The yam porridge is ready to be served.
