MIYAR TAUSHE

Miyar Taushe is a classic meal in Northern Nigerian homes. Learn how to make Miyar Taushe. This video shows how to make the perfect Miyar Taushe using ONGA seasoning.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Small sized pumpkin
  • Goat meat, cow leg, beef, shaki, kidney, heart etc (A combination of any meat you prefer)
  • ½ cup of roasted groundnut
  • 2 pieces of dawa dawa or 2 tablespoon of iru
  • Scotch bonnet pepper (ata rodo)
  • 1 bunch Yakuwa leaves
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • Palm oil
  • 1 Bell pepper
  • 2 medium sized tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Dry pepper
  • Onga Seasoning cubes
  • Onga Ginger Onion and Garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • METHOD

    1. Wash and place all meat in a pot. Season generously with onions, add salt, dry pepper and Onga Ginger, Onion and Garlic.
    2. Place pot of meat on medium heat and cook for 15 - 20 minutes or until tender
    3. Peel and cut the pumpkin into cubes. Set aside
    4. Roast and grind the groundnut till it's smooth and set aside
    5. When the meat is almost soft, add the smoked fish and pumpkin and cook for few more minutes
    6. Take out the all meats and fish leaving just the pumpkin and meat stock in the pot
    7. Using a potato masher or spatula, mash the cooked pumpkin to a pulp and set aside
    8. Blend the tomatoes, onions, scotch bonnet & bell pepper. Cook till most of the liquid dries up
    9. Put the meat and fish back into the pot containing beef stock and mashed pumpkin
    10. Cook on low hear till it starts to bubble up
    11. Add the groundnut paste, stir and let it also dissolve
    12. Add the pepper mix and stir, then add dawa dawa or iru
    13. Add palm oil and cook till it’s well incorporated
    14. Let it simmer on low heat, then taste for salt and seasoning and add if necessary
    15. Add washed and chopped Yakuwa leaves and spinach
    16. Cook for few minutes then serve with Tuwo or Gurasa
